This course is a mandatory part of the "International Master of Astrophysics" programme, as one half of the module "Astrophysics I", PHY-750. For the general Physics Master it is part of the "Vertiefungsmodul Astrophysik", PHY-741b.

Der Grundkurs Astrophysik ist eine jährlich angebotene zweisemestrige Lehrveranstaltung als Wahlpflichtfach im 3. Studienjahr des BSc-Studiengang Physik sowie in mehreren weiteren Studiengängen. Es wird ein Gesamtüberblick über die Astrophysik erarbeitet. Dies ist Teil 2 des Grundkurses, der mit Teil 1 im Wintersemester 2024/25 begonnen wurde. Ein Einstieg in den Kurs mit Teil 2 ist möglich, aber nicht empfehlenswert, da vielfach auf den Stoff von Teil 1 zurückgegriffen wird und entsprechende Kenntnisse vorausgesetzt werden.

Do astrophysical classification schemes make sense? How can we allocate telescope time justly? And what personal limitiations should exclude you from the honorable circle of astrophysicists?

This seminar invites participants to study present-day astrophysics from a broader perspective of science studies, looking at the often ignored and neglected factors that shape our understanding of the universe.

Each week, we read essays, historical reports or astronomical and astrophysical publications that illustrate different aspects of equality and similarity among theories, methods, researchers and institutions. We explore how, why and where research practice has been subject to some widely acknowledged, some tacitly admitted, some usually denied equalities and inequalities.
