The seminar examines themes from Salomon Maimons life and philosophy, based on his well-known autobiography. Since the publication of the two volumes of the autobiography in 1792-3, this text haswon scholarly recognition by philosophers of the Enlightenment, scholars of Jewish studies and of German literature. Our discussion will include "The Merry Masquerade Ball" - Maimons allegory describing how various philosophers have tried to "dance" with metaphysics, his short commentary on Maimonides Guide of the Perplexed, the differences between theoretical and practical Kabbalah, as well as between natural and political religions.
