This course will combine a survey of Sephardic Jewish history (that is, the history of the Spanish and Portuguese Jews) with close readings of (selections from) some of the classics of Sephardic thought from the middle ages into modernity.

The class will be conducted in English.

It is assumed that students are aware that plagiarism is illegal and, more importantly, morally unacceptable. Any indication of plagiarism will be dealt with immediately and strictly.

Course Written Requirements: A final assignment will take the form of a research paper (10.000 characters), short film, graphic work (comic), PowerPoint presentation, etc., on a topic chosen by the student in coordination with the instructor Regardless of format, the presentation must have both a descriptive and analytical component.
