In the seminar we will touch upon the following topics:
* Male and female language
* Language use
* Language and sexism
* Metaphor and gender
* Transgender and queer identities in language
* Gender in the internet, “Cyberlinguistics”(?)
* Gendered machines
In each session we first discuss existing papers concerned with studies which have a focus on gender-related linguistic phenomena. This aims at providing you with a more thorough overview of linguistic disciplines such as sociolinguistics, pragmatics, phonology and syntax, and of how to read linguistic papers. You then present your own small case studies with the focus on the topic of the particular session. This will give you insights and training in empirical linguistic research and helps fostering the knowledge that you've gained.
