This course will survey various bodies of knowledge in Linguistics
relevant for both Natural Language Processing and Understanding. The
goal of the course is to understand how linguistic structure and
analysis of human linguistic behavior can facilitate more efficient and
streamlined models of text and discourse processing. This course will
have a large self-study component. Each week, there are readings to work
through and
problem sets to tackle. We will meet in person approximately every other
week to discuss the readings
and the problem sets; for this, you need to have done the readings and
problem sets and have come up
with questions.
