This is the second part of a two-semester module which lays the groundwork for all further coursework in linguistics by introducing students to the nature of language and the major domains of linguistic inquiry as well as basic concepts, principles, and tools.
The main focus of this part will be on aspects of syntax. In particular, you will learn
about
1) selected basic concepts, principles and tools,
2) how units larger than the word up to the sentence level are formed,
3) criteria for recognizing syntactic elements and how to depict them.

We will work according to to the Inverted Classroom Method.
