This seminar explores how war-related displacement unsettles gender orders, belonging, and notions of “home.” Through intersectional, queer-feminist, and (de-)colonial perspectives, students examine how femininities, masculinities, and sexualities are negotiated across protection regimes, legal status, and everyday bordering. Alongside theoretical readings, the course engages with films, memoirs, and graphic novels to reflect on memory, witnessing, and resistance.

The seminar is interdisciplinary and open to students from all fields; no prior knowledge of gender studies is required. It will be taught in English, but questions may also be asked in German, and assessments may also be completed in German.
