This lecture course provides a comprehensive introduction to astronomical techniques and instrumentation, guiding students from fundamental measurement principles to modern advanced methods. It covers the nature of astronomical data and statistical analysis, the influence of earth's atmosphere on observations, and key optical principles underlying telescopes and instruments. Students learn about telescope designs, detector technologies, imaging and adaptive optics, as well as spectroscopic techniques, including integral-field and multi-object spectroscopy. The course also introduces additional and emerging methods such as interferometry, adaptive optics, and astrophotonics.
