In this seminar, we will examine excerpts from contemporary media, including films, music videos, reality television, visual campaigns, television series, and sitcoms, to critique their representations of social identities and negotiations of identity politics. The seminar will reference seminal texts from cultural and media studies, such as post-feminism, post-racialism, colour blindness, and meritocracy. We will also analyse the relevance of these discourses concerning the modern commercial media landscape. Previous engagement with discussions on gender, race, class, and intersectionality is recommended for participation in this seminar.
