Adolescence may be defined as the period within the life span when an individual’s biological, cognitive, psychological, and social characteristics are changing in an interrelated manner from what is typically considered childlike to what is considered adult-like. In other words, adolescence is a period of transition. This course will emphasize that adolescence is a dynamic, developmental period marked by many changes for diverse youth. These changes have important implications for academic and psychosocial adjustment in the school context. A more comprehensive understanding of adolescence is important for teachers.
