As part of the Basic Module Fachintegrative Schlüsselkompetenzen für Linguistik, this course is a practical counterpart of Introduction to Synchronic Linguistics (Part I & II). Even though it is not an official requirement, it is recommended that you first complete Intro to SyncLing I & II before you take THIS seminar. It is still possible to take this course even if you have not yet completed Intro to SyncLing I & II, but bear in mind that you will have to work a bit harder than your already advanced peers.
This course is designed to give you a general overview of the research questions (DE: Forschungsfragen) that are tackled in the field of English linguistics as well as the language-research methods (DE: Forschungsmethoden) used to answer those questions. Furthermore, the main objective of the course is not only to show you what is possible in linguistics, but also to let you take part in linguistic investigations by writing a short RESEARCH paper (DE: Forschungsartikel) utilising one of the three methods of linguistic research that you will be introduced to in class.
