Inscriptions provide an invaluable amount of information on the ancient world. Epigraphy is a discipline encompassing both visual and material elements, within a historical textual framework. The module is designed to develop students’ skills and methodological awareness in the reading, interpretation and identification of inscriptions (sacred, imperial, honorary and funerary inscriptions instrumentum domesticum) also by means of the studying of the monumental characteristics. At the end of the course, students will be able to edit a critical Latin inscriptions’s edition, analyzing every single aspects of them.
Practical activities:
For a deeper understanding of the subject, an epigraphic trip is planned to the Berlin museums.
