The course will focus on the current state of knowledge on the petrology of metamorphic rocks of crustal affinity under different PT conditions, with emphasis on melting processes often affecting this portion of the Earth system. We will focus on the ongoing hot topics of research in crustal petrology - including but not limited to petrological characterization using classic and modern tools, geochronology, modelling and alternative geothermobarometry, often using the most recent scientific papers as learning material.
The course will include lectures and guided analysis of published papers. We will observe some key samples at the optical microscope and use MicroRaman Spectroscopy to acquire data - always respecting the guidelines for the current pandemic.
