Speaking skills are an essential part of language competence. However, it's not always easy to get your students to talk in class. In this course we are going to study the processes involved in the development of speaking skills and discuss how to create effective tasks and activities (games, role play, discussions, improvisations, projects) to encourage students to talk and interact in class. Taking a look at different examples from the primary EFL classroom we will focus on material/task design and media use and address questions of differentiation, feedback and assessment. Participants will design short teaching sequences and material to be used in the classroom.
